What a Walk Can Do: How to Turn a Simple Stroll into a Mental Reset.

How a Walk Can Actually Fix Everything

Stressed? Your Brain is a total mess? Before you try to research and go on TikTok and try a hack or have an entire energy drink, here is what you should do: take a walk.

Yeah, I know It might sound lame. But seriously, a simple walk is probably the most underrated thing you can do for your brain. Just think of it as something you only do to get from point A to point B, but it's so much more than that. It's a total mental reset button.

The Science of the Stroll

Okay, so I’m not a scientist, but when you walk, your brain actually chills out. It’s called “transient hypofrontality,” which is just a fancy way of saying that the part of your brain that stresses about homework and other things just chills for a bit.

This is why you get your best ideas when you’re not even trying. You're not forcing your brain to solve problems, so it can just do its thing and come up with some brilliant stuff on its own. It's like your brain is in the background, running on autopilot, while you're just chilling.

How to Turn Your Walk into a Mental Reset

It’s not about hiking for hours. You can do this in 10 or 15 minutes. The trick is to be intentional about it.

1. Unplug and Disconnect

This is the hardest part. DO NOT bring your phone seriously. Or, at the very least, put it on "Do Not Disturb" and leave it in your pocket. Don’t listen to a true-crime podcast or scroll through TikTok. Just let your ears and eyes take in the world around you.

2. Pay Attention to Everything

Try to notice little things. What’s the weirdest-looking cloud you can spot? How does the light hit the leaves on a tree? What music can you hear from someone’s window? The goal is to get out of your own head and into the moment. This is a game-changer, and seriously, it works sooo well.

3. Just Let Your Mind Go Wild

This is where the magic happens. Don't try to think about that history homework you have due or that test you might have tomorrow. Just let your brain do what it wants to do. It’s okay if your thoughts are all over the place. A cool idea or a solution you couldn't find before might just pop into your head out of nowhere.

So, next time you're feeling totally exhausted, don’t just sit there scrolling. Put on your shoes, step outside, and go for a walk. It’s free, it works, and it’ll make you feel a hundred times better.

What’s your go-to song to walk to (if you're cheating and listening to music)? Let me know if this works for you and how well it works for you

My Phone-Free Hour: The One-Hour Challenge That Changed My Day.

A Teen's Guide to Unplugging and Feeling Better The other day, I was scrolling through TikTok (for like, the third hour in a row) and a thought hit me: what if I just... stopped? For one whole hour? No notifications, no texts, no endless videos. Just me and the real world. I know, it sounds kind of dramatic, but I was feeling totally useless. Like my brain was a soggy mess from all the screen time. So, I set a timer for 60 minutes, turned on Do Not Disturb, and put my phone away in a drawer. Here’s what happened and what you could do, too. What to Do With Your Time The first five minutes were brutal. I kept reaching for my pocket, feeling the phantom buzz of a non-existent notification even though the phone was not there.  I kept thinking of all the texts from my friends that I was probably missing, but once I got over that, I was surprised by how much time I actually had.  Here are some ideas for what you could do: Be a creator, not a consumer.
